Roger Wishner is one of four co-chairmen of the newly formed Florida Democrats for Mitt Romney. He was a former member of the Florida House of Representative from Sunrise .

In a telephone interview Wishner said that he’s supporting the Republican presidential candidate because it’s time for a change- which was the same reason he supported Democrat Barack Obama in 2008. He is also a former city commissioner and Sunrise mayor.
This is the first time that Wishner ever supported a Republican.
“I’m deeply concerned about the direction of the country. Putting parties aside, I’m worried and I think that we need to go in a different direction,” he said.
When the Democratic candidate had a mass rally at the Sunrise arena now known as the BB&T Center in the year 2008, he was there and supported Barack Obama. “I wanted to see a change to see a new direction. I wanted to see the country succeed. That’s why I wanted a change then.”
Supporting Romney as what he thinks doesn’t hurt his standing among Democrats. “This is not an issue of party, and it shouldn’t be an issue of party. The problem is when you basically are so locked into a political ideology that you must support that individual because they happen to have ‘D’ or an ;R’ or an “I’ next to their name,” he said. “Do I think it’s going to burn any bridges? It’s not about me. It’s about the future of the country.” Two issues Wishner cited: about the economy and Israel ’s security concerns.
Coming under Obama, he doesn’t see any progress. “I see stagnation. I don’t see any ideas. I see the same plan.”
In 1987 when he was elected to the Sunrise City Commission, his career in politics began. From 2000 to 2004, he served in the Legislature By 2007, he retruned to the commission and was elevated to mayor when long time mayor Steven Feren became a judge in 2009. A defeat in hotly contested race for mayor in 2010 he had when a new comer Mike Ryan defeated him.
He is in the medical waste business as of this time.
